How it works
See the real take-home behind any gross salary or CTC, in seconds.
Enter the gross salary
Annual or monthly, in the local currency.
Choose the country
The calculator loads the right deduction rules for that location.
Add the details that matter
Basic-pay split, allowances, or tax regime where it changes the result.
Read your net take-home
Broken down line by line, so you see exactly where each unit of pay goes.
Accurate anywhere you hire
The calculation follows the country you pick. Where payroll and tax have to be exact, major markets run verified statutory logic instead of a rough estimate.
Country-aware everywhere
Works in any country, with statutory tables for 44 of them. Pick a country and the gross-to-net logic follows that location's take-home rules.
Deterministic, not an AI guess
For major markets like India it runs a fixed statutory engine (PF, ESI, professional tax, income-tax slabs), so the numbers are consistent and repeatable.
Gross-to-net transparency
Every deduction is itemised, not hidden inside a single net figure.
Free to start
Run an estimate before you decide whether you need the deeper payroll tools.

How take-home salary is calculated
Gross, CTC and take-home
CTC (cost to company) is everything the employer spends on you, including their pension or social-security contribution and benefits. Gross is your pay before deductions. Take-home is what actually reaches your bank after tax and mandatory contributions. The three are almost never the same number, which is why a headline salary or CTC can be misleading on its own.
The formula is the same everywhere
Net pay is your gross minus the statutory deductions your country applies. The line items differ by market: Provident Fund and professional tax in India, federal and state tax plus Social Security in the US, PAYE income tax and National Insurance in the UK, CPF in Singapore, and little to no personal income tax in the UAE. Pick your country in the tool to load the right components.
India, as one worked example:
Net pay = Gross − Provident Fund − ESI (if applicable) − Professional Tax − Income Tax
| Deduction | Typical rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Provident Fund (employee) | 12% of basic | Employer matches 12%; a portion goes to the pension (EPS) up to the wage ceiling. |
| ESI (employee) | 0.75% of gross | Applies only when monthly gross is ₹21,000 or below. |
| Professional tax | Up to ₹2,500 / year | State-levied; not charged in every state. |
| Income tax | Per chosen regime | Old vs new slabs change the final number; the tool compares both. |
What makes up a CTC
On an Indian CTC, basic is usually 40 to 50% of the package and drives PF, gratuity and HRA; HRA is often 40 to 50% of basic and is partly tax-exempt if you pay rent. Because PF and several allowances are calculated on basic rather than total gross, the basic-pay split changes the take-home, so a higher gross does not always mean a proportionally higher net. That is exactly what the calculator makes visible.
